In this chapter, Lassie meets the ghost of the Old King, from whom he learns that he is actually the bearer of the Master Gift, capable of absorbing the magical talents of whichever magic-wielding person he has sex with. This amazing news is followed by some cold showers, though, as Lana, in her attempt to free Madeline from inside the jail, ends up getting herself pilloried outside it - and as the Old King informs Lassie that the Master Gift has a fairly troublesome side effect for its human carriers...
